“Chronograph. Time’s Witnesses: Igor Nikolaevich Meshkov”
Igor Nikolaevich graduated from the MSU Faculty of Physics. Over many years, he worked at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (INP SB ASU, now ― Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of SB RAS). In 1989―1993, he headed the Physics Technology Centre of INP SB ASU in Lipetsk.
Since 1993, I. N. Meshkov has been working at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. He started his career as the head of an LNP sector, and in 1998―2003 he became the chief engineer of JINR. At present, he is one of the leaders of the NICA collider construction. His scientific interests are charged particle beam physics, accelerator physics and technology, high-energy physics, plasma physics, and physics of radiation methods of material processing. Along with his colleagues from INP SB RAS, he developed and demonstrated the electron cooling method for the first time, then he participated in developing electron cooling systems and conducting experiments using those at CERN (Switzerland), Fermilab (US), in Jülich, GSI (Germany), and at the HIMAC facility (Japan).
Igor Nikolaevich is a gifted teacher, professor. He headed the Department of General Physics of Novosibirsk State University, Department of Physics of Lipetsk State University, founded the Department “Electronics of Physics Facilities” at MIREA, since 2017 he is a professor of the Department of Information and Nuclear Technology of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at Saint Petersburg State University. He is a supervisor of many renowned scientists.
Over many years, he was keen on alpinism. In 1962 he was one of the founders of the alpine club “Vertikal” (Akademgorodok, Novosibirsk), in 1968 he got the title of master of sports, and in 1981 the title “Snow Leopard” awarded to mountain climbers who reached the highest summits in the ex-USSR.
