ARIADNA сollaboration held meeting on applied research at NICA complex
The scientific programme featured invited talks, presentations of new experimental proposals, technical discussions and visits to the NICA accelerator facility. Participants presented reports on the development of the collaboration as an international forum for solving ambitious problems in different fields of science and technology. The meeting addressed the growing involvement of research and production companies in joint projects utilizing ion beams, and provided an overview of current scientific problems and technological solutions based on the application of major accelerator complexes.
For two days, the participants discussed the application of the NICA complex potential for a broad spectrum of research at the interface of nuclear physics, materials science, microelectronics, and radiation biophysics.
Scientific sessions addressed a broad range of research topics, including:
- Radiation protection for human space exploration;
- Radiation materials science and advanced shielding materials;
- Life sciences and biomedical applications of heavy-ion beams;
- Radiation effects and qualification testing of electronic systems;
- Accelerator driven subcritical reactor (ADSR) technologies;
- Radiation detectors and associated instrumentation;
- User infrastructure for applied research at NICA.
Aleksei Agapov, a senior researcher of the DLNP Sector of Radiation Medicine and Biology, presented a report “Development and manufacturing ionization chambers for radiation beam monitoring”.
Apart from scientific sessions, awarding ceremony of JINR staff members took place within the meeting: Aleksei Agapov and Gennady Mitsyn, staff members of the Sector of Radiation Medicine and Biology of the DLNP Department of New Accelerators, received the honorary certificates of the ARIADNA collaboration.
