Konstantin Gusev "LEGEND: Current Status of the Search for Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay of 76Ge"

Thanks to the excellent energy resolution of germanium detectors, which serve both as the source and detector of the decay, LEGEND has the highest discovery potential for neutrinoless double-beta decay among current and planned experiments. Both phases of the project, LEGEND-200 and LEGEND-1000, are located at the LNGS underground laboratory in Italy.

Following the first physics results from LEGEND-200, the collaboration focused on reducing the experimental background. In 2024, data taking was suspended to allow for a major campaign, including the disassembly of the setup, re-cleaning detector components, and improvements to several parts of the detector system. In 2025, LEGEND-200 was reassembled, upgraded with additional detectors, and restarted data taking.

In parallel, preparations for LEGEND-1000 are underway. The decommissioning of the Borexino detector has begun to clear space for the next phase of the project, which will host one tonne of enriched HPGe detectors.

The seminar will provide updates on both phases of the experiment, covering the current status of LEGEND-200 after the restart of data taking and the progress towards LEGEND-1000.
