S. M. Deyev "New trends in oncotheranostics" (Shemyakin & Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow)
A concept for the delivery of anticancer drugs has been proposed, serving as an alternative to existing approaches based on the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect.
Our approach relies on the enhanced accumulation of drug-loaded nanocarriers in tumor vessels, followed by rapid release of the encapsulated drug, resulting in effective penetration of the agent into the target tissue.
The selectivity of therapeutic agent delivery to target cells is crucial for reducing the overall toxic load on the body. We have proposed several approaches based on multifunctional structures that combine targeting modules for recognizing tumor cells and agents for precise diagnosis and effective cancer therapy. A synergistic effect of combined immuno- and chemotherapy has been demonstrated, based on the selective delivery of compounds with different mechanisms of action to the tumor.
