Ilya Yuryevich Zimin "Monte Carlo simulation of limiting parameters of a Li-glass-based composite scintillator for thermal neutron detection"
At the seminar the results of a Monte Carlo study of the limiting parameters of a composite scintillator for thermal neutron detection will be presented.
The purpose of the research is to determine the limiting parameters of the composite under its varying structure parameters – grain size, glass concentration, and total thickness. As a result of the simulation, the following parameters were determined: the maximum efficiency of neutron conversion, the limiting thickness of the composite, and the minimum achievable gamma sensitivity. With a fixed neutron conversion efficiency of 0.7 for a 15 mm thick composite, a gamma sensitivity of ≈2×10-9 can be obtained, which is three orders of magnitude lower than that of the homogeneous NE 912 one with a thickness of 1 mm.
