Konstantin Nikolaevich Gusev "LEGEND: 0νββ decay search with germanium detectors"

The LEGEND experiment searches for the neutrinoless double-beta (0νββ) decay of 76Ge using isotopically-enriched high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors with the ultimate discovery sensitivity beyond a half-life of $10^{28}$ years.

The project is conducted in stages. The first one (LEGEND-200) was steadily accumulating physics data at LNGS (Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, Italy) for more than one year with 140 kg of HPGe detectors. In 2024, the first results were presented, confirming competitive sensitivity at slightly higher than predicted background level. Data taking will resume in early 2025. In parallel, preparations are underway for the full-scale LEGEND-1000 experiment with one ton of enriched HPGe detectors. The new facility will also be hosted by LNGS, and installation work will begin later this year.

At the seminar the first results of LEGEND-200 will be presented, and an update on the second phase of the experiment, LEGEND-1000, will be given. Special attention will be paid to the JINR contribution to the project.
