"Chronograph. Time's Witnesses: Zoya Marlenovna Karpova"
Zoya Marlenovna Karpova graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of Altai State University in 1979 with a degree in cosmic rays. She began working in her field at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences after completing mandatory training as part of her assignment to the Design Bureau at the ANITIM (JSC “Altai Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering Technology”). In the observatory she worked on the topic “Investigation of modulation effects of galactic and solar cosmic rays using ground-based monitoring”. She participated in different experiments on searching for intensity variation of cosmic ray muons at the laboratory of Baksan Underground Scintillation Telescope, searching for extensive air showers of cosmic rays at the Andyrchi array, searching for high-energy solar cosmic rays at Baksan ground-based detectors: Andyrchi, Carpet, Baksan Muon Detector, and Baksan Neutron Monitor. On the basis of the obtained data, she prepared a candidate dissertation “Investigation of solar cosmic rays according to the data from the Baksan ground-based detectors”, which she defended at Pushkov Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation (IZMIRAN) in 2008.
Since 2007, Zoya Karpova has been working at DLNP JINR and conducting physical research at the ATLAS facility (CERN). In particular, she was actively involved in search for new Z’-bosons in the decays into top-quark pairs, search for observable supersymmetry manifestations, search for quantum black holes in the lepton jet channel.
Apart from scientific accomplishments, Zoya Marlenovna has a passion for creative writing: since 2014 she has been creating fascinating sci-fi books.
