V. E. Glukhov (Kamchatka Branch of GS RAS; Vitus Bering KSU) "Evaluation of the efficiency of approaches to seasonality detection in model tilt-measuring series with varying noise levels"
The DLNP JINR compact precision laser inclinometers were installed in Kamchatka in 2022 for joint research and data processing with the Kamchatka Branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Vitus Bering Kamchatka State University.
The seminar presented a comparative analysis of widely used methods for extracting seasonal components in geophysical time series based on a model experiment. The study was conducted on 300 model time series with a controlled signal-to-noise ratio ranging from –25 to +20 dB. A non-sinusoidal annual variation, represented by a smoothed meander, was used as the reference signal, which corresponds to the characteristics of tiltmeter records in Kamchatka. Quality assessment was performed using a set of metrics. The results demonstrate significant differences in the robustness of the methods at low signal-to-noise ratios.
