Congratulations to Anton Dolzhikov on Receiving an RSF Grant!
The Russian Science Foundation (RSF) has announced the winners of the 2021 Grant Competition “Initiative research performed by young scientists” of the Presidential Programme of RSF research projects. The Competition is aimed at supporting early-career scientists under the age of 33 who have defended their candidate dissertations.
One of the winners is a researcher of the DLNP Sector of Low Temperatures, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Anton Dolzhikov, with his project “Study of heat exchange in a He-3/He-4 dilution cryostat used for reaching ultra-low temperatures (below 30 mK): experiments, development of the calculated model and optimization of configuration”.

The grant allows getting better insights into heat exchange mechanisms inside dilution cryostats. There are three mechanisms of this kind: thermal conduction, radiation and convection, and it causes certain difficulties in calculation and design. The main way to overcome the difficulties is to perform experiments and to analyse their results.
A large amount of experimental data on heat exchange in dilution cryostats is already accumulated. Now, the data should be processed and grouped together to get empirical dependences enabling scientists to improve future cryostats, an integral part of many physics experiments. Currently, cryostats from Dubna are components of facilities in Bonn, Mainz, Protvino and other science centres across the world.
According to the grant terms, experimental results should be published in peer-reviewed journals twice a year. The grant is received for two years.
