Today marks the 113th anniversary of the birth of Venedikt Petrovich Dzhelepov
V. P. Dzhelepov was appointed Deputy Director of the Hydrotechnical Laboratory of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, established in Dubna, which was later transformed into the Institute of Nuclear Problems. He took part in the creation of the then world's largest proton accelerator: a five‑meter synchrocyclotron with an energy of 500 MeV. For thirty‑three years, from 1956 to 1989, he headed the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR, and from 1989 he was its Honorary Director. A talented scientist and prominent science administrator, he laid the foundations for many of the Laboratory’s research directions, its traditions, and its working atmosphere.
