Congratulations to Aleksandr Grigorievich Olshevsky on his 70th birthday!
Aleksandr Grigorievich began working in DLNP in 1979 after graduating from the Faculty of Physics at Moscow State University with a degree in physics.
During his work, A. G. Olshevsky completed a number of projects that yielded important scientific results: the proposal and first measurement of the pion Compton effect and the polarizability of a charged pion, the formulation and implementation of tasks to test the Standard Model in the large-scale DELPHI experiment at the electron-positron collider at CERN, and measurements in neutrino physics, including the OPERA, Daya Bay, NOvA, and currently JUNO experiments, among others. Based on the results of this work, A. G. Olshevsky defended his candidate (in 1988) and doctorate (in 2002) dissertations.
For his significant contribution to the Daya Bay experiment within which the neutrino mixing matrix angle was measured for the first time, A. G. Olshevsky was awarded the M. A. Markov Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2013, and, as part of a team of authors, the Breakthrough Prize 2016.
A. G. Olshevsky pays great attention to conducting methodological work. At various times, with his participation and under his leadership, projects were successfully implemented in the SIGMA-AYAKS, DELPHI, OPERA, COMPASS, Daya Bay, JUNO and other experiments.
Aleksand Grigoryevich does a lot of work as a teacher. Seven candidate dissertation were defended under his supervision. In 2011 he was awarded the title of the professor.
A. G. Olshevsky is one of the leading Russian specialists in the field of high-energy physics and particle physics. During his work, he was awarded the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” of the second degree in 1996, and got one of the first degree in 2006. In 2020, Aleksand Grigoryevich was also granted the Medal "For Merit to Implementation of state politics in the field of scientific and technological development". In 2024, A. G. Olshevsky was honored the medal “300 years of the Russian Academy of Sciences”. In 2025, Aleksandr Grigorievich was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Science and High Technology of the Russian Federation." A. G. Olshevsky's achievements have also been recognized with many prizes, medals, and badges of honor from JINR.
We sincerely congratulate Aleksandr Grigorievich on his birthday and wish him good health, prosperity and success in his work!
