Russia
As one of the Soviet republics, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic became part of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research on the day the organization was created, 26 March 1956. As the legal successor of the USSR in JINR, the sovereign Russian Federation has been a Member State of JINR since December 1991. The activities of JINR in Russia are carried out in accordance with the Federal Law of the Russian Federation “On the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research on the location and conditions of activity of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in the Russian Federation” signed by Vladimir Putin on 2 January 2000. Russia is the largest scientific partner of JINR, cooperating with almost 150 Russian research centres, universities, industrial enterprises and companies.
