The Bruno Pontecorvo Prize is an international prize awarded annually by the Scientific Council of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research for services in the field of particle physics.
It was founded in 1995 and is named in honour of Bruno Maksimovich Pontecorvo, an Italian and Soviet physicist who is known for studying weak interactions, nuclear isomerism, moderation of neutrons and their capture by atomic nuclei, and also for his research in the field of neutrino physics and astrophysics.
The V. P. Dzhelepov Prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of experimental and theoretical research aimed to solve applied problems using nuclear physics methods. The prize has been awarded since 2010.
In order to honour the memory of the outstanding scientist Academician Bruno Pontecorvo and also to reward and motivate young scientists, the Bruno Pontecorvo Scholarship for the young DLNP scientists was established at the JINR Laboratory of Nuclear Problems in 1997.
In order to honour the memory of V. P. Dzhelepov, the distinguished scientist and science administrator, a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Russian Academy of Sciences, and also to reward and motivate young scientists, the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research established the annual V. P. Dzhelepov Scholarship.
