JINR Summer Student Programme
On 11 August, Denis Uzhva from St. Petersburg State University, the first of the students who came to JINR within the Summer Student Programme, completed his practical training. The trainings within the Summer Student Programme are six to eight weeks long. Students come to JINR until September for a period agreed upon with their scientific supervisors from JINR, but the traditional beginning is in June.
Participants are selected by JINR staff members on the basis of applications submitted through the site students.jinr.ru. The results of the work are published by the student at the site in the form of a report. This year we had a true international team of trainees, which included students from Russia, Belarus, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil.
Denis Uzhva ended his practical training with a report "Investigation of deep learning methods for the classification of events in the NOvA experiment" (supervisors Christopher Kullenberg and Oleg Samoilov), which he delivered at the DLNP Elementary Particle Physics Department last Wednesday.
