The review lecture “Solar neutrinos” by D.V. Naumov is intended for a wide audience beginning with junior students.
Studying solar neutrinos, we have learned much about not only solar physics, but also neutrino properties and neutrino oscillations in dense matter. According to classical physics, the Sun cannot shine as it does now. The Sun is a quantum relativistic machine. The lecture tells about nuclear reactions producing energy in the Sun. Neutrinos produced in some of these reactions are a source of valuable information about mechanisms for the burning of nuclear fuel in the Sun.
