From 10 to 30 October 2020, the Exhibition Hall of the Mir Culture Centre will host the photography exhibition “Baikal. Neutrino Hunters” devoted to the 65th anniversary of JINR. The photographer Bair Shaybonov is a regular member of Baikal expeditions, senior researcher at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of JINR. The exhibition is open daily from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm. The entry is free.
Artem Rusakovich ”Sanger sequencing and analysis of its results”
- Details
- Category: Seminars
Sequencing is a molecular biology technique that estimates amino acid or nucleotide sequence of biopolymers (proteins / nucleic acids). DNA analysis is one of the key ways to study molecular biology and genetics. Sanger sequencing is a type of such analysis.
At the seminar, the basic principle of Sanger sequencing was explained, as well as some problems of analyzing its results. The idea of developing new software was proposed, which is intended to increase the speed and accuracy of transforming the initial “raw” data into a sequence, using both basic algorithms and machine learning.

First Joint Biological Research by the Molecular Genetics Group (DLNP, JINR) and the Baksan Neutrino Observatory (BNO, RAS) in the DULB-4900 Low-Background Laboratory

All living things on Earth originated and evolved in a natural radiation background environment. That is why the reaction of living objects to the almost complete suppression of the natural radiation background in deep underground neutrino laboratories is of great interest to biologists across the world over many years. In November 2019, the experiments conducted by the Molecular Genetics Group (DLNP, JINR), along with the Laboratory of Low-Background Research (BNO, INR, RAS), got underway in the unique environment of the DULB-4900 low-background laboratory (Neutrino village, Kabardino-Balkaria) located 4 km away from the tunnel entrance about two kilometers deep under the Andirchi peak (3937 m).
Aleksey Agapov “Design of Technical Equipment and a Dynamic Irradiation Technique for Proton Radiotherapy”
- Details
- Category: Seminars
A new system for dynamic irradiation of deep-seated targets with irregular shapes has been developed at the DLNP Medical-Technical Complex (JINR). The technique is applied using a multileaf collimator and an automated range shifter. These devices were especially constructed according to the specific beam delivery system geometry used in the Complex. Preliminary results of the first dosimetry measurements showed the better conformity of shaped irradiation fields compared with the standard passive 3D conformal proton radiotherapy.
Кonstantin Shipulin “Software and Hardware Development for Planning and Quality Assurance of Conformal Proton Radiation Therapy”
- Details
- Category: Seminars
The purpose of this work is to design, construct and test a complex of systems in order to improve the quality of proton radiation therapy and to implement these systems in machine codes, namely:
1. A treatment planning system for simulation of proton radiotherapy;
2. Methods for calculating and manufacturing individual devices to form gradients of a dose field;
3. A hardware and software complex for quality control of forming devices being manufactured;
4. A hardware and software complex for verification of the position of the patient in a proton radiation therapy session.
