Curiosity of scientists is stronger than fear. Looking for discoveries, they climb down into toxic side gutters, boiling lakes or gloomy caves deep underground where scorching magma is bursting from rock clefts. And quite often their fearlessness is rewarded — scientists find microorganisms with fantastic abilities which can be used to improve life on Earth. This comic strip is a hit parade of similar discoveries. One of them has been recently made by biologists from the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of JINR at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory (INR of RAS) located at a depth of more than two kilometers under the Andyrchi mountain in Kabardino-Balkaria.

An interview with Aleksandr Demidovich Konin (02.11.1926—29.10.2021), a participant of the Great Patriotic War, a staff member of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems (LNP) from 1958 to 2021.
A. D. Konin was born in 1926. He was mobilized in January 1944, was in action in the Far East within the 23rd field-engineer brigade. He was granted the Order of the Patriotic War II class, the medals «For Battle Merits”, “For the Victory over Japan”, “For the Liberation of Korea”. He was demobilized only in 1950. He entered the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute in 1952.

From 18 to 23 July 2022, the 14th International School on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics will take place in Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The International School on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics is one of the key events of the year 2022 held according to the Programme of the National Centre of Physics and Mathematics with the support of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, the Russian Federal Nuclear Center − All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics, the MSU branch in Sarov and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
