Today a regular seminar was held at the Department of Multiple Hadron Processes.Grach Torosyan spoke about the first results of observing microseismic phenomena with the Precision Laser Inclinometer at the Garni International Geophysical Observatory (Armenia).

The Precision Laser Inclinometer allowed determining angular deformation of the Earth’s surface by the Moon and the Sun, recording microseismic peaks from the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea with the frequencies of 0.23–0.32Hz and0.56Hz, and detecting vibrations of the Earth crust due to earthquakes and industrial noise of Garni.

The achieved measurement accuracy was 2.5 10-11rad/Hz1/2.

The concept of quantitative predictions of earthquakes using a PLI network was presented.
